Did you do the PTA Reflections Contest when you were growing up? Seriously, it was big at my school. Every kid entered something. An art project, a story, a song... Didn't matter, but everybody got involved. It seems like hardly anyone even knows about it anymore. There's a mom at Ellis who is really pushing it again, which I am really happy about. I think it's such a great program.
So, of course, once Matthew found out he could win a gold medal, he got all excited about it and entered a few categories. He won 3rd place in Photography for this photo that he took last year, and he won 1st place in Musical Composition for a song he wrote about Egypt! OK, so he was the only kid in the entire school who turned in a musical composition, so he won by default, but I'm still totally proud of him. They send the winners on to compete against the winners from the rest of the district, so I'm excited to see how he'll do there. You should hear this kid on the piano. I think he's even passed me up (well, he's passed up the level I was at in first grade, anyway!).
I'm so stinkin' proud of this kid. I have no idea where he came from.
Also, any tips on how to convince him that he doesn't actually need to wear this medal around for the rest of his life? He even tried wearing it to bed last night.
