Fall is always a busy time of year on the farm, and this year they were extra-desperate for harvest helpers. Since Ryan's law work is fairly flexible, he pitches in on the farm where he can, which means harvest comes and I don't see him much. I grew up with this lifestyle. I'm fine with it. We farm girls are independent women who can take care of things ourselves when our men disappear for weeks at a time to drive trucks and play in the dirt. Or whatever they do.
And so when our husbands pack up and take a "business trip" to Germany, which involves an itinerary of touring farms and learning about equipment advances (or which we only slightly suspect involves an alternate itinerary of attempting to track down and stalk Heidi Klum), and they leave us all alone with a newborn and a six-year-old who has recently developed a mysterious inability to put on his pajamas without exclaiming "I can't DO IT! I need HELP!"...Well, we are fine with that, too.
After all, there are only so many things that husbands, who are lacking certain anatomies, can do to help out with a newborn.
But we farm widows miss them all the same. And we are sad that they will miss an entire week of said newborn's life.
Have fun in Europe, babe. And please try to remember that Heidi Klum is married to a big and very muscular Nigerian man.
That's so funny...Braden regressed when Hailee was born and Hailee regressed when Sam was born. Funny how they all of a sudden "CAN'T DO" things they've been doing for years. :)
